Google Still On Top
California based Internet giant Google is still the one to beat. In reports online, a recent analysis by comScore says Google’s increase in market share was its biggest in five months. Conversely, Microsoft and Yahoo suffered declines in the number of searches during the period. Video sharing sites were not included in the analysis.
Yahoo was the second most used search engine while Microsoft came in third. Microsoft’s 8.3 percent market share represents a 3 percent drop from its 11.3 percent share in 2007. The software maker hopes to improve on these figures with the buyout of search engine startup, Powerset.
This may be a futile gesture on Microsoft’s part. Google is currently in the last stages of creating a search partnership with Yahoo. Reports online quote chief executive, Eric Schmidt as saying the deal will be in place by October 11. The agreement is expected to come under scrutiny by European Union anti-trust regulators.
Currently Google’s market share stands at 63 percent, which represents a total of 7.398 billion searches in August. Interestingly, it was Microsoft’s MSN Windows Live that suffered the biggest decline according to comScore’s August report.
